I have two books that I really love to use with clients when teaching about 'what is normal' when considering women's bodies, and particularly when discussing sexuality and vulvas, and this is one of them.For teaching, education, or your own knowledge of what is 'normal' for womens vulvas, Femalia , as well as The Yoni book, The Yoni: Sacred Symbol of Female Creative Power offer realistic representations of vulvas. The Yoni book in general is a positive, woman honoring elucidation of the female form and includes art, sculpture and natural formations that represent or resemble a woman's vulva as well. I really like the Yoni book for it's 'pro' woman, reverential perspective.However, for a book that is great for teaching and solely features realistic, color photographs of vulva's Femalia is the best choice. Femalia has full color images, one per page, and most have pubic hair, some are pierced, and women of all different skin colors are included.Personally, I think all mothers with daughters, (as well as anyone working with women and teens) should have them both. Openly discussing variances and allowing girls/teens to see what is normal will help them to have more realistic concepts of women's bodies (as well as helping girls to have a more positive self image as they grow up).
What a wonderful book! it's small but powerful, I think it would be a great addition for anyone's library and to help teach young women about their bodies. I loved that these pictures were of women who were NOT sexually stimulated. Also, that many of them were natural. I'm shocked when I hear a women and she doesn't know what her vagina looks like. Sad. What's that saying, "The more you know....knowledge is power.Excellent book!
I really enjoyed watching it, I have only glanced through it the first time, but it was exiting to see different colors, shapes, piercings. As a woman I have never gotten to see that many vulvas.It is really enjoyable and I like it that is non threatening, not pornography, it is what it is, and I feel that is very needed and refreshing. Female genitals are not outside, straightforward like males, so, you never really get to see it even if you are in a room full of naked women, Femalia is a good tool to know more about yourself and if you don't know anything, it will be a good tool to start knowing something!
This book provides an educational resource, showing in frank detail pages and pages of "portraits" of the female vulva (the external female genitalia). It's beautifully photographed by a number of local photographers, including Michael Rosen. I've used this book to teach my male (and some female) clients about the vulva and it's incredible diversity of shapes, sizes, and colors. It's "one of a kind."
What's here is good... and exactly what I expected... but there's a lot less of it than I thought I'd remembered. I'd first seen the book (or one like it with the same name? seems unlikely) about five years ago at a woman's workshop.I was expecting a book about 4x as thick as this one was, expecting to see a lot more variety. (I'm an artist; I was needing some visual assistance for a couple of paintings for an erotic art show.) Still, it was helpful.
I bought this book but the conditions are terrible, damaged. completely disappointed.
I am a pelvic health physical therapist and I have this book in my treatment room. Patients will page through it if they are waiting for me and I've found that it helps a lot of women feel better about their own bodies. It's a great book demonstrating how different normal can look and it helps instill confidence in a lot of my patients.
From reading the description I had much higher hopes for this "coffee" table book.
