The book has come to my life at the right time. God's timing is perfect and great are His plans for anyone who honors Him and puts Him first in your life. I will be eternally grateful @devonfranklin despite the nightmare that is going through my island of Puerto Rico, I had to take time to thank God for leading excellent leaders like you. Overall this book is phenomenal.I do wish however, that he fleshed in a few details out a bit more.For example, one of the Commandments is don't work for a company that violates your values.I would say the mass majority of companies will violate your values in one way or another. So I wish this was expanded a little more. I also know how difficult it is to get in keep a job in the film industry. So having examples of people who quit because of their values and were hired again quickly may have been helpful to read - but I don't know if that's anyone's reality. I know there is an element of faith in a decision like that, but there are many examples in the Bible where God calls people under terrible leadership; and that person is a major influence under that leadership.
I had been praying about how to take my acting career to the next level and was looking for resources to guide me. However, I was unable to find someone from the business side of the entertainment industry to give me insight on how things really work in the industry. The Hollywood Commandments by DeVon Franklin did all of that and more.The knowledge shared in this book can benefit anyone who has a desire to step into the fullness of who God created them to be. And something I really liked was that you don't have to be in the entertainment industry or in Hollywood to benefit from reading this book.DeVon generously shares years of experience and insight like a coach/friend/mentor/big brother - and backs everything up with scripture. This book is encouraging, insightful and impactful - you won't regret reading it. I have been recommending this to all of my friends and pre-ordering copies one by one to send to my friends - as my budget allows. I'm going to read it again!

Where too many Christians think that going to church is all it takes, DeVon reminds us that excelling in the little things, day to day, is the meat on the bones of the industry -- and that applies to everyone. Believers shouldn't think they are exempt from the hard work that goes into applying their skills, but rather that they should lead the way. "Your faith informs your art", as I tell my students, and who we are in Christ should inform a strong work ethic.
This is a really good book. I have bought over five copies for work and bought the audiobook for myself since I'm always on the go. We keep them on the bookshelf at our youth shelter and youth drop-in centers. After one staff read the book in their down time, they incorporated it into the life skills group we teach daily. The key part that shows how powerful the wisdom is in this book is the staff did this on their own. I didn't suggest it, and didn’t recommend for them to even read the book. They did this on their own, and we started to see the young men did the same thing. As a result, they are leading the life skill groups themselves and discussing it among themselves.The book gives real life examples on the different “commandments†that validates the truth they contain. It demonstrates and explains what many of us know, however do not often have the patience to endure. This book helped the young men we serve, our staff, and myself to run our race with endurance and to not grow weary in well doing. It helps us to operate at a higher version of ourselves, and gives the tools on how to do it.
