I disagree with your permissive attitude towards the illegal aliens living in the United States of America. I could say so many things to refute your views but I will stick to one. Why, if these people consider themselves American, don't they apply for citizenship lawfully. I do NOT believe that it is their right to live in and profit from my country illegally. Rule of Law indeed! Your book is a travesty .

I read for pleasure not to have someone's political opinions shoved down my throat. John Lescroart has always been one of my favorites and the Dismas Hardy series one of the best in the genre. However, this one was just a big political mess discussing the illegal alien issue! Very simple really! They are illegal. Come here the right way and apply for citizenship, like most members of my family did, and become an American. Two other of my favorite authors went down this same road with the political bias in their books. I felt it only fair to give them one more chance. Well, that did not work out to well for them or for me. So I no longer buy their books! Another author has been given his one chance and now so has John Lescroart. Unless the next book is different, it will be the last one I read from this author. My politics are mine alone. I do not shove them down anyone's throat therefore I should not have to spend money to have an author's political stance shoved down mine!

i had relegated the previous lescoart novel to the junk heap. i had hoped thay was a one-off . unfortunately less than half way through this one it appears not to be the case. it reads like amateur hour; lame narrative, lame dialogue; caricature characters and silly plot . i dont know where lescroart went but its the end of the road for me .

I've liked other Hardy books, but this one was not for me. A mix of a decent criminal story and too much political opinion. The author says he wanted to tie up loose ends for the cast of characters. There was a lot of that and it kept getting in the way of the story. Disappointing.

I read the author’s first twenty books… and what started out as a joy ride… slowly petered out. The story-lines got tame and lame… the characters got almost silly/foolish in their painting… and most disturbing of all was the total non-believability of the climax in many of his books. A few strained the constraints of credulity! So I skipped the last few episodes before deciding (based on a lull of books to read) to give it another shot on his latest release “The Rule of Law”.It must be very comforting to many Lescroart fans that “OZZIE AND HARRIET”… oops! I mean Dismas and Frannie are still the lovingest… sweetest… caring… sugar and dumplings… maple syrup dripping married couple in modern criminal fictionality. The larger question for a potential reader is whether they want to invest their personal time and money on a three-hundred-twenty-two page screed based on the author’s political beliefs regarding illegal immigration… his love of sanctuary cities… and demonization of ICE. That is the core of the entire book. I don’t know about you… but I didn’t want to… or plan to… read a book that Ad nauseam trumpeted the “awful” injustice of protecting our borders. I like to read books that get the normal 24/7 repetitive news cycle preaching out of my mind for some solitary hours in the day. If that is your desire… then this book is not for you.

I have read every book by lescroart.this the first book that I did not give 5 stars.next book leave the bay area political b.s.home.

I read far more of this book than I wanted to because it wasn't cheap and I have always like this author and the Hardy/Glitzky characters. Not so This time. This book was uninteresting. There is so much more I could say, but I'll just leave it there. I wish I could get my money back for this one and will.likely not read Lescroart again.

I have read all the Dismas Hardy novels but this one was just not up to John Lescroart’s usual standards. Characters appeared really shallow. The “good guys” were saints and the “bad guys” were horrific. Plot was predictable. Bad guys had to die. I may not return to this series again.
