I didn't know what to expect with this book. I got the book after watching the video. I'm glad I did. I loved reading about this guys journey in the world of table tennis. He makes some really good points and observations that can translate to anyone on a mission to achieve something. I don't play table tennis and I don't think I ever will. I however am fascinated with learning how people motivate themselves. Anyhow it's a good quick read.

Extremely easy, useful and enjoyable read. I highly recommend this book for any amateur table tennis junkies trying to develop their game.Sam has put forth a very well written, and at times self deprecating, humorous tale packed full of great table tennis tips and insights. I could feel my game improving chapter by chapter. Haven't read anything else quite like it before.He also does a great job conveying the fears, embarrassment and challenges an adult player faces learning the game. This challenge, and Ben's website, helped me appreciate actually how many adults are going thru a similar journey to table tennis expertise. There is a lot of comfort in that.Thanks to Sam and Ben for the challenge and a wonderful book! Keep up all the great work!

This is the first book I have ever read front to back. Very insightful on what resources I was ignoring when i tried mastering something. I am currently mastering boxing and realized I should go to camps and see what others can teach me and not just my trainer.

A friend and I are starting a table tennis club at the school I teach at and this has become a good resource for us. There are other resources that we use.

I read the whole thing. I liked it.His reflections towards the end of the book are the most valuable part of the book.

It's a great read. I finished it in two days. It had been a year and a half since I'd read Red Rising and while I kind of remembered the plot I tried to read as many reviews/spoilers as I could to remind me of what was going on and who was who before I picked up this book.Unfortunately that preparation wasn't enough to remind me of the plot and the numerous secondary characters for me to jump back into it easily. Brown doesn't waste any time (and I mean ANY time) getting the story rolling. No recap is given so I floundered for a long time trying to remind myself of what was going on. I kept hoping that all I'd need is one piece of the puzzle and suddenly the story line and characters would click in my head and I'd remember what happened.One of the things that I felt was missing was the lack of emotion that was in the first installment. It definitely had loads of action scenes but it was missing that emotional side to Darrow that I loved in the first book.Sadly, after reading more than thirty percent of the book my frustration with trying to remember who was who and what was going on got to be too much and I finally gave up. I don't give up on books easily but it felt like I still wasn't grasping the plot and I didn't remember how the characters were related and my frustration won out. Some would say that I could look on the internet and look up some of the characters I was unsure of but I, as a reader, shouldn't have to do that. Plus, there's not a lot on the net about this book yet. I checked.While I'm not alone in my feelings towards this book I am still very much in the minority. It's the second book in the Red Rising trilogy, and is as exciting as the first.The series strikes at the fundamental core of our American independence - free will. Many stories have been told of dystopic societies that paint a worrisome future for us if we "continue down the path we're on." Most of them have oppressive regimes that all feel they are doing what is necessary to keep the peace. Look to Star Wars and The Hunger Games, to name just a few. These stories take our fundamental desire for free will and suppress it in a structure that appeals to the reader on a visceral level.Brown does a remarkable job of playing with the reader's emotions, to the point where one takes personal offense at the content of the story. This draws the reader in and attaches themselves to the fate of the characters, willing the characters to make the right choices and make the same decisions the reader would make. You're all but cheering along with the victories, and weeping with the tragedies.The world Brown has built is rich and expansive. Not just the planetary scale of characters, but the depth with which the society has been carefully constructed to serve the story and reflect history. There's enough for everyone to relate to from a historical perspective, and yet it's easy to become lost in the overwhelming "now" of the narrative.Golden Son is as amazing as Red Rising; the story is relentless and engaging, if not a bit predictable. Just a bit, though. There are patterns that must be followed of course, but you'll still enjoy the ride the entire time.
