This book was terrible. The questions were poorly written and were completely different than the questions provided on the practice RICA test. Went through half of the first practice test and immediately made the decision to return it because it did not test what would be on the actual RICA at all!! So disappointed. If you need study materials for the RICA, you're better off buying "Ready for the RICA" by Zarillo of "Case Studies in Preparation for the California Reading Competency Test" by Joanne Rossi and Beth Schipper. THOSE books will definitely prepare you. This book will not.

Very basic book of shapes. It has absolutely nothing to do with Cuauhtemoc. I wanted a bilingual book of shapes for my son, and this was perfect. He loves reading it, and as he gets older we can teach him about Cuautemoc using this book as a starting point. Happy with my purchase.

These are great quality. The imagery is great and fact that this introduce Mexican culture to my bi-racial son is awesome. My only complain is they are rather expensive for how short they are, but once get them you understand why they price where they are.

Love these series of English / Spanish books from Lil Libros. I have purchased all the books for my daughter and even a Lil Libros print / poster. I am happy with both the content and the quality. Thanks.

Ms. Rodriguez' books are a delightful way to introduce the wee ones to the Spanish Language! They are sturdy so even the tiniest hands can flip pages without damage. They are colorful with marriages of simple graphic shapes to form images that are refreshing for a child's book. I enjoy reading these books to my 11 month old grandson!

Such a cute book, some of the shapes were a bit much for a kids book but there are only so many shapes. Overall I'm pleased with my purchase and would definitely recommend it to others, I also purchased 4 other LilLibros there were good as well.

I expected more of these books than your traditional "Triangle/ Triangulo". The book itself is just shapes in English and Spanish so if this is what you expect then this is your book. The titles of these series to me gave a sense of it being more than your bilingual shapes book.

My 2 yr old loves this book! She has almost the whole series and this one is in her top two favorite! The pictures are very helpful and she is learning her spanish fast, itâ€™s amazing! I love how these books are solely based on Mexican culture. Finally something educating in culture that also honors a lot of Mexicoâ€™s biggest icons!

The dual language aspect of this book is nice and my wife appreciated that it has rhombus as a shape. The illustrations are nice as well.

In this social chronicle of the American South's past 40 years, Wilkie (coauthor, Arkansas Mischief), a native Mississippian who exiled himself, proves that, indeed, you can't take the South out of the boy. Drawing on his own memories and dozens of books and magazine articles, Wilkie retells the big stories he covered as a journalist, most notably for the Boston Globe: Ole Miss's forced acceptance of its first black student in 1962; "Freedom Summer" of 1964, "the most terrible year of violence since the Civil War"; Nixon's Southern Strategy to wrestle the Southern vote from the Democrats; the election of Jimmy Carter; the conviction of Medgar Evers's murderer in 1994, 31 years after the crime. But at the core of this book is Wilkie's own development in the face of enormous changes. Raised as someone "who observed segregationist customs, but disapproved of blatant bigotry," Wilkie becomes appalled by the South's racism. In 1969, he flees Mississippi for the cultivated Northeast he'd read about in Cheever and Updike novels, planning never to return. Of course, he discovers New England has its own problems, like the controversial student busing program in 1975 Boston. After 25 years, Wilkie moves southward again and finds it, like himself, changed yet unchanged. "My generation experienced more disruption in our social order than any other.... Yet we maintained our own culture, our accent, our cuisine, our music as if should we give them up we would finally admit defeat." Wilkie, a noted journalist, grew up in Mississippi and launched his career there. His book is a series of essays "based primarily on memory . . . freshened and reinforced" by recent and extensive background reading. In recalling the Mississippi of his childhood, youth, and young manhood, he in essence takes his readers on a political and sociological tour of the South during the region's cataclysmic sea change, for he grew up during the years when black resistance to Jim Crow laws was gathering momentum. He attended Old Miss during that institution's worst days of attempting to preserve its segregationist policies, and as a cub reporter for a Mississippi newspaper, he witnessed civil rights violence firsthand. Getting his fill of his home state's foot-dragging, he left the South for more than two decades, working for the Boston Globe. But he always felt like a misfit in the North, and his southern consciousness eventually drew him back to Dixie. Though Curtis Wilkie is 25 years older than me, I found many of his thoughts about Mississippi and the South to mirror my own. He loves his home yet he hated the racism, violence, and backwardness and fled for 25 years. But, eventually he came home. This is a very touching memoir of a reporter who grew up in the trying times of the 1950s and 60s, and worked as a chronicler of the South and American politics for over 4 decades. Sixteen years after the publishing this book, Wilkie is still writing. I highly recommend this book.

I am a native New Yorker who lives in Oxford, MS. The South is such a complicated place easy to condemn for it's reactionary intransigence. Unfortunately, the typical Northern appraisal of the South is an unfair over simplification. Wilkie writes lovingly and insightfully of the South he deservedly loves and criticizes. Wilkie joins a long line of great Mississippi authors who continue to be both repelled by and magnetically held by their state. It is impossible to understand America without understanding the South and this book is an eloquent effort in a continuing dialogue.

My husband is the same age as Curtis Wilkie and I am only a few years younger. We grew up just south of the author in southern Louisiana and southern Mississippi from the 40's to the 60's. We both thought the book extremely well written and insightful. We have given it as a gift and recommended it to others as a must-read.Mississippi is slowly joining the 21st century and has much to offer now that the white paternalism and good old boy networks are shrinking and there are the beginnings of a black middle class. We can all hope that the south will rise again - with equality for all.

As someone who recently relocated to the Deep South I thoroughly enjoyed Curtis Wilkies tales, including civil rights struggles and the political strategies used to get the Southern vote. Both historically educational and entertaining, I highly recommend this book.

I could not put this book down. This combination autobiography/social and political history seamlessly weaves personal anecdotes, biographical narratives, and historical commentary. Wilkie's strengths lie both in his compelling journalistic prose and his intimate knowledge of many of the events he discusses. His firsthand accounts of already famous (and some not-so-famous) events add rich color to our collective knowledge of the region and era.

Mr. Wilkie knows his history and has created a thorough and interesting read. He includes many facts and perspectives on Southern history.

Fabulous book

Curtis Wilkie is a Mississippian who paints a broad picture of the Civil Rights movement from the inside out. He cataloges his growth from childhood to young adult as a jounalist in waiting, one with a sympathetic ear for the plight of the descendants of slaves in central Miss. His descriptions of his upbringing in a town divided by race are quite good. And his stories of Ole miss football games and the atmosphere surrounding them are excellent as they foreshadow the struggle of the civil rights community in what Stevie Wonder referred to as "hard times Mississippi." It's a well told story.As a young adult he escapes to Manhattan and literally and figuratively joins the literatti at Elaine's, that popular Manhattan nightspot frequented by those the likes of Willie Morris. His soft hearted leanings help him fit right in as a typical evenings dicourse is often filled with lamentations with regard to those unenlightened ones, those knuckle dragging country folk left behind. The book is an ongoing narrative of Wilkies life from his work within the movement in his home town, his migration to NYC, his marriage there, and his subsequent return to Mississippi as an older man.It was a time of great change in the South and Wilkie captures it as well as anyone I've read. Let's just say that it's certainly different there today. A good companion read would be "Rising Tide" by John Barry. It's about the great Mississippi river flood of 1927, a disastor that not only changed the landscape of the south, but also that of America. It's a great lead-up to Wilkie's story which bridges the link between the old south and its new beginnings. One cannot read these books without feeling the tribulations of the misbegotten and dispossesed; it's a tonic for softening the hardest of hearts.

I am an "experienced, intermediate level' canoe paddler. My family and I recently completed our basic river training in Ontario, on the Madawaska river, ORCKA, Basic Level 3 certification, and we have begun white water training. The information in this book reiterates/reinforces things I already know, but goes a little further to illustrate rescue techniques I didn't know. Read this book if you are headed for the fun stuff.

This book was recommended by the product manual on my new Astral rescue vest. A real page turner, glad to be reading it before the rescue class in two weeks.

Very informative and well written and illustrated.

Great book. If you are going to be on rough water you should at least read the parts on self rescue and the rest wouldn't be bad to know either. It's good for a refresher too.

Good narratives with good photos of vital info you should be aware of before casually getting on the water... Respect and prepare for the possible risks; treat this info like car insurance! Learn it and hope you do not have a personal need for it! Highly recommend this book!

I finished a whitewater rescue course, and wanted a book for review. This is an excellent overview book. As good as the book is, it is not a substitute for whitewater rescue instruction.

Fantastic resource for river rescue technique. Every paddler should know these skills. I will feel much safer knowing the information provided in this book.

This is not a bad book. Nor is it particularly poorly written. I just think it is a bit misguided.This is my first Jennie Allen book and, after reading many glowing reviews (and a couple of not so glowing ones), I was ready to jump right in. I am no stranger to journaling (I understood from a review or two that this would be necessary) so I was poised to dig, journal and discover what it means to dream again -- all with Jennie Allen cheering me along the way.And thatâ€™s exactly what she does. Early on in the book, I felt understood -- after all, she too was a wife and mom who struggled with a sense of purpose and that restless feeling we all seem to get in our lives at some point or another. Jennie felt like a friend who understood (who would love to be discussing your hopes and dreams over coffee right this instant, but simply couldnâ€™t), and the conversational tone of this book makes it both engaging and easy to read. Jennie is nothing if not sincere. She sincerely wants you to realize that God has uniquely equipped you with gifts, and she sincerely wants you to passionately pursue Godâ€™s call and purpose for your life.And these are very good things. The journaling activities are meant to help you discern what your giftings and calling might be. You were asked to write about your own story, highlighting unique instances when you felt joy and delight in what you were doing, and she also directs you to see how God might use suffering in your life to fuel your passions or to enable you to help others who suffer. Attention to the common, boring, monotonous, unremarkable with remarkable regularity, devotion, a daily (often moment-by-moment) dying to self for the sake of others -- not for praise we may receive presently, nor the thrill or sudden â€œrushâ€ of knowing we are walking in our â€œpurposeâ€, but out of sincere devotion to Christ and out of our love for Him. I am concerned that women reading this book will think their purpose â€œout thereâ€ somewhere -- something they must leave to do or look for somewhere else. Often what is required of us is right beneath our noses, but fails to look appealing, because we are fickle mortals and our â€˜restlessâ€™ feelings are often still just feelings, and we should be wise in how we respond to them, interpret them, and where we allow them to lead us.I also believe that simple discontentment is a far greater issue that people in general, and women in particular, grapple with. We Christians are not exempt from the inner tuggings that tell us we deserve more, were meant for more (than this) and that it's our God-given "right" to pursue more. We needn't even leave the church to find support for this sort of belief system. It is a far greater challenge, indeed, to embrace contentment with what God has apportioned us, and to do so will always be swimming against the current in today's culture.I realize it is often difficult to be discerning with so many well-meaning Christian books coming at us, with a thousand different voices about what is right or what is advisable. The Holy Spirit and Godâ€™s immutable Word must ultimately lead us in the right direction. It seems to me that the vast majority of women live ordinary lives where they can and should use the gifts God has given them. But how and when they use those gifts is a matter of great discernment that should be made with much prayer, counsel and adherence to Godâ€™s Word.

As others have indicated, this is a thought-provoking book that you need to take your time with. However, I wish I had been warned not to buy the Kindle edition. A large portion of this book involves reflection and journaling, and there are charts and diagrams within the book where you are supposed to write. These are not replicated well in the Kindle edition, so even if you try to complete the information in your personal journal, it's hard to know what the diagrams look like.

I had been wrestling with the idea that God was moving me into another season but struggled with really accepting that and all that would accompany a shift. This book was the perfect encouragement I needed to finally take the step of faith that God had been calling me to do. I normally breeze over "exercises" in books but not this time. I found the journaling exercises at the end of each chapter extremely helpful and I was honestly surprised at what they revealed to me. If you are at a point in your life where you know you were meant for more, please read this book! It will be the catalyst for change in your life!

I received the "Restless DVD Bible Study" by Jennie Allen, complimentary from the gracious team at BookSneeze. I in turn agreed to write this review. Well, I can tell you that it is my joy to write this review as I was anticipating receiving this study since I found out Jennie completed it. I was introduced to Jennie Allen a few years ago when she released her first bible study, "Stuck" (AMAZING STUDY), and I have been able to read and complete her following books and bible studies. Jennie's "Restless" study is based on the life of Joseph from the Bible, and she leads participants through a practical plan to identify the "threads" of their lives. Jennie hopes that through the study women (and men) will find out how to weave those "threads" together for God and His glory and purposes. Some of the topics that are covered during the 8 week study are; God's story, gifts, suffering, people and passions. The format of this study is different from Jennie's last two studies as she is teaching before a live audience, and some of her friends share their stories on the DVD. I have loved her last two studies so it is hard for me to say that this one is better, but I can say it is just as good and the messages Jennie teach are powerful and life changing. I really truly believe that if a person lets God lead her through this study her life could be changed forevermore. I believe Jennie has been gifted by God, and she is one of the voices of our generation that is calling people back to God. She is passionate for people to know Jesus and experience a relationship with Him that is life changing. She is true to the "Gospel" message and she will tell you the truth even when it is hard. Jennie has stated that her heart is to equip and unleash the followers of Jesus to live and love Him and others. I understand that there are those that may read this review that don't have a relationship with God and maybe curious as to what all of this "talk" is about. Although this study is geared toward the follower of Jesus, I believe it could be used to introduce someone to what God's Story is all about. I am sure it is clear from my review, but I highly recommend this study by Jennie Allen and I cannot wait to read the paperback book when it releases.

About the Author

Eran Dinur is an Emmy and VES award-winning VFX supervisor, artist, and instructor. His work at ILM Singapore includes films such as Iron Man, Star Trek, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and Terminator Salvation. Since 2011 Eran has served as the VFX supervisor of NYC-based company Brainstorm Digital on numerous film and TV projects, including The Wolf of Wall Street, Boardwalk Empire, The Lost City of Z, CafÃ© Society, Nerve, Delivery Man, The Heat, The Men Who Built America, and The Immigrant. Very good book, coming from vfx side of things I see no errors in describing the hex pipeline, a solid distilled source of knowledge for everyone who need to catch up on the essentials.

Very well written from an insiders perspective. Perfect for filmmakers with little or no VFX background and a must for VFX students.

I actually bought this book at Sam French brick and mortar but I had to write a review. I am about to direct a feature which while no blockbuster still has a serious budget and will not only require visual effects but I know I need them to stretch my budget and production value. This book is written in a very comprehensible cogent manner. Every accomplished story teller should look at this as a gift to expanding their craft and their scope of filmmaking.I am so grateful that Mr. Dinur wrote this book at it came out just at the right time for me. Fantastic!

Eran is incredibly insightful, this book is a must read for filmmakers.

The Zulus quickly became powerful through discipline and bloodshed. Nevertheless, when their territory was invaded by the British in 1879, they "had been at peace for twenty-three years and no British settler or traveller had ever been harmed." The ultimate result was inevitable, but the Zulus achieved remarkable successes along the way. Strangely, this disciplined people would have achieved even greater success if they had obeyed their King's order not to attack fortified positions. The aftermath of the war featured British greed, brutality and incompetence. The authors have written a chronicle worthy of the heroic Zulus.

This was a well documented and balanced account of Zulu history. There was a lot of information to cover but the authors did well at presenting it in an understandable and cohesive format.I knew nothing about the Zulus before this book other than the old movie I watched as a kid. The content was fascinating to me. I loved the common themes of power struggle, cultural identity, and strategy that you see repeated through all of history, along with the uniquely Zulu customs and societal priorities that were all new to me.The story is definitely a more tragic and frustrating one, but enlightening and important, whether you have specific ties to African history or not.

Perhaps too scholarly for the casual reader as it gets almost biblical with all the begats. Nevertheless I found it most interesting especially since it presents the Zulus in an unbiased way and exposes the ruthlessness of the Boers and the British in dealing with the indigenous population not unlike our treatment of native Americans. The conquerors usually write the histories.

The Zulu story is sad and heroic. Presented in this book the Zulus were treated unfairly by a greedy society who wanted what they had and did not want earn the right.

A terrific history of the ZULU people and their history with Great Britain. For history buff who like the 19th century a gold mine

Hard story to follow. Went to another book, which was very good , and will start this one over in near future.

Well-written and provides a greater understanding of the background of the strife with the Zulus

Excellent history of the Zulu wars for anyone interested in African history and Britain's involvement in that Continent. They did wash their spears in British Blood.
