This book is so many different kinds of awesome. I have a fascination with the history of Denver (lived here all my life) and my moms side of the family has been here since the early 1900's. It is amaizng to know the different places, people and now... restaurants that used to thrive in these buildings. My mom is especially fond of the Drumstick restaurant and still pines for their Roquefort Cheese dressing so many years later. Thank you for writing this book... It has definitely been fun to read it and I can't wait to show my Mom and aunts/uncles.

Got this a gift for a Colorado history buff. I have not read it but she was very happy to get it.

A Denver metro resident for nigh on 55 years and I got to say this book covers everything from family restaurants to high end joints. Conjures so many memories and stimulates so many "remember the..." conversations. Well worth it. It would be great to see a LROD2. hint hint. Our Whistles have been whet.

Not as much information on places as I expected. Felt like an "internet research" book. Too much personal opinion & not enough history/facts. Sorry I bought it.

I bought this book on Friday and since I wanted to read it I got the Kindle book as well. I finished it on Saturday night! I couldn't put it down. It has been almost ten years since I read a work of fiction and Last Tears as been a completely refreshing foray back. This novel has such interesting twists and turn and such a rich mythology I can't wait to read the last book. The character of Day is an amazingly complex and genuine character strong and venerable in an unexpected way. This is an instant classic and anyone who does not dedicate the few hours to immerse themselves in it is depriving themselves of a new favorite. You must read this book now!

This book is simply unlike anything I have read. It's amazing!!! I cant wait to get the 2nd and 3rd books!

The characters are great. The imagery is vibrant and well done. The story compels one to keep reading. The mythology is so enjoyable. Highly recommended.

If sequels arrive, I will buy them and read them, so I hope the author is encouraged by that. But I am guessing the author is very young and/or inexperienced because of some of the problems with the book. Even though we are in the year 3000 plus, gender roles have hardly changed, with most girls still absorbed by their looks and gossip as a favorite pastime, while boys wield weapons and feign stereotypic manliness, this DESPITE the seemingly amazing powers most have to affect nature at its core. The female protagonist is whiny and endlessly self-doubting, another tiresome constant with female leads. And the "teens" all still use words like "dude" and "cool," very unlikely 1000 years from now, especially given what we know about language evolution. So I hope the author gets a little more imaginative in her portrayal of the people; they don't measure up to her very interesting portrayal of the world they inhabit. If she can match both, she would be producing something much more 5-star.

This book was really easy to get into and was exciting until the end. I love the mixture of fantasy and mythology/legend. Can't wait for the next one!

I'm sooooooo sad this book is ending and I can't wait for December 1st to roll around to get the next book in the series. From the beginning I was taken into this amazing world through the awesome imagination and descriptive writing she obviously has a knack for. Great job!!!!

Individual volumes are small enough to fit into a pocket, but in terms of helpfulness, they are twice their physical dimensions. The other reason these guides are so worthy of praise is the fact that each volume has a neat, tidy, and nicely detailed foldout map to the particular area under discussion. The chapters in each volume correspond to the geographical areas into which the authors divide the city for the tourist. Each chapter gives basics on places to see, available art, and entertainment venues, places to eat and drink, where to shop, and where to stay. You can study a range of guides before your actual trip, but this is definitely a commendable candidate for carrying with you on site. Then, just this past month, everything changed... I discovered something new... You see, when I went to the bookstore to pick up guidebooks for my upcoming honeymoon, I got an idea... Since we're going around the world with stops in Milan, Lake Como, Dubai, Shanghai, and Tokyo, and I needed to buy a guidebook for each destination. Why not, I thought, buy five different guidebooks (from five different publishers) and compare them to find my favorite. So that's what I did. I bought one brand for each stop and then, on my way out, I saw a little Paris guide I'd never seen (or heard of) before. So I picked that up too. (I go to Paris at least once a year so I can never have enough Paris guidebooks.) Here's what I found... and it surprised me: My favorite book of all -- for both pre-trip planning and on-the-ground support -- is The Little Black Book of Paris. The other guides I bought are all divided into sections this way: Where to Stay, Where to Eat, What to Do. But The Little Black Book of Paris is divided by area. And each area has its own fold-out map (which, to be honest, blows the Frommer's maps out of the water). While the guide doesn't have an entire history or culture section like most of the others do -- Lonely Planet, TimeOut, Fodor's, etc -- it's well written and there's an overview of each area at the beginning of each section. I liked the guide so much I went back to the bookstore to buy more. Unfortunately, they don't have guides for my other destinations as they're a fairly new series. They do, however, have one for Washington D.C., where I live, so I bought that. I bought this guide to Washington, DC for selfish reasons. Whenever family and friends come to town they expect me to use my precious vacation days to entertain them and take them sightseeing - even though they have been to DC a number of times and know where everything is. Now I can just give them this wonderful guide and send them on their way. All of the museums, galleries, the zoo and other sightseeing points of interests are covered along with maps (including the Metro.) This guide fits easily in a fanny pack or backpack, is spiral bound between hardcovers and tells you just enough info to make a decision on where to eat/drink/shop/sightsee.It also looks like Peter Pauper Press is updating the guides every two years as this is a second edition.These guides are good for sightseeing, and can be used by writers who want to set their stories in a major city (Think Margaret Truman's mystery novels in DC, etc.)Try one of these guides and I promise you will be hooked.

I love the 'Little Black Book' Series. A few years ago I purchased the New York guide and it was full of hidden secrets to navigating the big apple. ( as well as comprehensive subway maps and guides:) This little black book was no exception. I met my mother for a business trip and while she was busy working I went out exploring. The subway maps and information were phenomenal. I used it to help me navigate from Regan National Airport to Omnishoreham Hotel. I visited many places based on recommendations from the book and nearly all of our dining expierences were from the book. The only thing that was slightly disappointing is that the book is from 2007 and thus a few of the places had closed, and certainly more added. Elsewise is a great "paper copy" to exploring the city potentially to be used alongside some new age technology :)

I live in the DC area and found this book essential for the DC area. I use this book for giving out of town guests a tour of the city and even planned a scavenger hunt for locals. It is very sturdy and small enough to fit in a purse. The fold out maps are wonderful.
