OK so here's the deal on this book. I purchased this book because I was looking for another set of practice questions for the CySA+ exam. I completed video training from Pluralsight and Udemy. Each course came with their own set of practice exams, and I had an uneasy feeling that their practice exam questions were not difficult enough. After purchasing this book, I started going through the 1000 questions and answers. I felt stupid. These questions were difficult, to say the least. I'm not complaining, however. These questions really taught me to read the questions CAREFULLY and select answers based upon reasoned logic. By the time I finished all 1000 questions and then went back through them for review, I felt completely confident to schedule my exam the next day. This book contained MANY questions on Linux, and, coming from a Microsoft background, I was unable to answer many of them, so I spent hours researching Linux commands online. Bottom lione: I scored a 788 on the exam and I don't think I could have passed without the extra practice I got from these advanced-level questions. PS: I did not get a single Linux-related security question on my exam :). I highly recommend this book to aid in your preparation for what turned out to be a very challenging exam.
I found this book to be very helpful in passing the exam (I used another book for reading). No book is perfect but I gave it a 5 because it goes above and beyond the exam. The questions provide references to tools and processes not covered on the exam but help for the real world. I believe the book should be titled with "CySA+ Exam Practice Questions and Beyond" to give the potential purchaser a better idea of what they are buying. I didn't give it a 4 because no book is perfect and I'm not going to ding it on little typos.
I passed my test on the first try. I didn’t go through this entire book. I focused mainly on questions with output, logs, reports, etc. since I felt that’s where I needed the most practice. I would recommend as a great review for anyone wanting to test their knowledge before the real exam.
I used this and the sybex study guide, along with some other self study tools to pass this exam on the first try. The practice tests are messed up though. There are several errors inside that I was able to catch. Right answers with the wrong letter, wrong answers with the right letter, etc. This doesn't help when you are trying to gauge your mastery level.If you are newer to IT and unsure of the material I would skip this. If you have been around a while and can throw your "BS" flag on an erroneous answer then it is probably worth it just to drill. There are a lot of example logs/vulnerability reports to look at.If you are studying for the CySA check out the Jason Dion course on udemy. It is excellent and includes a practice exam.My experience level: 7 years in IT and I have Net+, Sec+, ITIL, and more.
The questions are very good, but there are many topics/terms that are not covered in the Sybex CySA+ study book. So, expect to get many questions wrong if you have used that as your main study guide.
The questions in the book are awesome! So hands on and real world ! Love it from the first day !
This book covers all the topic you need to know for the exam. Straightforward and easy to understand. Highly recommended.
As someone else already has mentioned, this book is probably a bit too difficult for the exam. I did have a chance to attempt this exam twice.However, I like it as it goes deep and probably more helpful in a long run as there is a lot more to learn.
