From the Inside Flap
What is The Color Companion? How is it different from The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World?1. It Really Is a Companion While there’s some information that’s better communicated in prose, other information is best presented photographically. For example, photos of rooms or the pool at a Disney hotel are better than verbaldescriptions. Our 900-plus-page Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World is the most comprehensive guidebook in print to Disney’s Orlando empire. However, when it comes to visualizing something, there’s just no substitute for a good photo. So, to cover all the bases, we offer this companion guide. There’s more than enough information here to plan your entire Disney vacation, but if you want to dig deeper, using the Color Companion in conjunction with The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World gives you the whole enchilada.2. This Guide Has a Sense of Humor There is a plentiful assortment of dry, plodding travel guides for readers who would prefer to know how many rivets there are in a flying elephant than to have a good chuckle. As for us, we’re all about providing excellent information and having some fun. No useful information was sacrificed to make room for humor in the Companion. We nailed down the essential content first and then added artistic and humorous elementsto make the Companion a zippier and more enjoyable read. So, if you can tolerate a little irreverence, parody, and general wackiness, the Color Companion will serve you well.3. Sometimes We’ll Pull Your Leg We might describe a fantasy resort that’s 100 feet underground with rock-chiseled furniture and an occasional mole in the guestrooms, or an octopus sandwich with tentacles everywhere and malevolent eyes peeking from between the buns. We’re pretty good at this, and sometimes we might fool you for a minute, but to make sure you don’t call Disney reservations and attempt to book a room, or try to order the octopus sandwich at the theme park, we’ve included this little icon to signal that we’ve taken a brief break from reality.4. It’s in the Genes The humor in this guide is totally consistent with the humor in The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. In fact, most of the humorous elements in Color Companion originally appeared in the Big Book, though not in photographic form.|More than 600 full-color images prove that a picture is worth 1,000 wordsA unique visual guide that lets you see how wet you’ll get on Splash Mountain®, what the crowd conditions are at different times of day in Fantasyland®, and how the parks are decked out for various holidays.Pictures of all the attractions, making the book a perfect keepsake.Reviews of all the Walt Disney World® resorts, including pictures of the guest rooms, swimmingpools, and resort themes.Attractions and resorts rated based on surveys of thousands of Walt Disney World® guests.Proven, firsthand advice on how to plan and save money on your Walt Disney World® vacation. The Unofficial series is completely independent. If a restaurant serves lackluster food or an attraction is not worth the wait, we’ll tell you.

We got this as a present for an 8 year old boy so he could see the rides and things we planned to do on an upcoming visit to Disney. He put check marks by all the things we did on our vacation. He also used the front and back blank sheets for character autographs. (It would be nice if they had a couple more blank sheets for notes or autographs)This does NOT replace the regular Unofficial Guide to Disney World which we also bought. This should be used as a supplement
If you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World (WDW to its devotees, of whom I am one), the premier guide to WDW's wonders and delights is THE UNOFFICIAL GUIDE TO WALT DISNEY WORLD, an 800+ page behemoth that will give you the straight dope on everything--good, bad, and indifferent. As much as I love and revere that 800+ page fount of information, one thing I have always wished for is color photos. Half the fun of reading the tour guides looking over the color pictures and planning, or remembering, the good times to come. The UNOFFICIAL GUIDE: THE COLOR COMPANION TO WALT DISNEY WORLD aims to rectify that deficiency, in a volume that is more manageable in size. And for the most part, they succeed. In order to keep the book to a smaller size and include a mess o' pictures, much information had to be left out. This book lacks the detailed information that the UNOFFICIAL GUIDE provides. But that's to be expected, after all the reader has to expect to trade out some things for color photos and portability. There's still plenty of good information in this book. What I didn't care for was the quality of the photos. They just weren't as "alive" as the photos in Birnbaum's (which does the Official Guide for WDW). Also I didn't so much care for the joke pages, which could confuse some people with no prior WDW experience. If you are going to WDW and want to buy a few guide books, here are my top favorites (in order):1) THE UNOFFICIAL GUIDE TO WALT DISNEY WORLD (for a no-holds barred view)2) BIRNBAUM'S WALT DISNEY WORLD (for the photos)3) PASSPORTER'S WALT DISNEY WORLD (for your memories)Have a magical visit!
My wife and I have gone to Walt Disney World 24 times. We live in Chicago and always drive down. Since the World keeps changing and improving with some new rides and attractions and others going away, it is always good to get the most timely book to help you plan and enjoy your trip. While there are rides and attractions we consider a must do every time we go, we also enjoy learning what is new and seeing if we want to check it out. This is a must read for anyone going to WDW for the first time or as in our case the up coming 25th trip.
I love the Unofficial Guide books and own the traditional large book because of all the information. That being said, there are no pictures in the huge book so that is where this book takes over. It's filled with beautiful pictures of all things Disney! It still has reviews of everything (just not as in depth) as the traditional book but instead of explaining what a room might look like at a specific resort it shows it instead is wonderful color pictures. I love going through it over and over just to see them. It brings back wonderful memories after our trips.
This guide is an okay complement to the other "Unofficial Guide." But, with the addition of both Pandora and Toy Story Land (and with the coming of Galaxy's Edge), this book feels overdue for an update. (I imagine the next edition is waiting for Galaxy's Edge to come out).
My Disney-obsessed 11 year-old daughter absolutely loves this book! We got it for her for her birthday since we have a trip to the Magic Kingdom planned, and she shares bits of trivia about the various parks we us almost daily. The book is full of great pictures and kid-friendly information. By the time we get to Disney World, our daughter will be able to lead us all around like a little tour guide!
We bought this guide, the full guide, and the kids guide. The full guide is all you really need. The color companion was nice so that our 3 & 5 year old daughters could flip through the pages and see color pictures of the various rides...but the color companion provided very little value to the adults after reading through the full guide first.
Great book for anyone that is planning a trip to Walt Disney World. Alot of info inside to tell you about everything there is do and alot of pictures.
