About the Author
S. Christian Albright received both his B.S. degree in mathematics and his Ph.D. in operations research from Stanford. He then taught in the Operations and Decision Technologies Department in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University until his retirement in 2011. He taught courses in management science, computer simulation and statistics to all levels of business students, including undergraduate, M.B.A. and Ph.D. students. He has published more than 20 articles in leading operations research journals in applied probability. After retiring, he worked for several years for the Palisade software company. This book was recommended to me for an independent study I was doing in college. It goes step by step not only explaining how to do things in VBA but also why some quirks are the way they are. It also comes with lots of sample files in addition to the sample code in the book.I will say if you are looking to automate charts, graphs and other objects this book does not go into great detail of this. Partly because Microsoft made it difficult to do with Excel 2007 and partly because the main focus of the book is to use VBA as a modelling tool utilizing the spreadsheets.Definitely I book I will not be returning at the end of the semester.
This book is a good summary for understanding VBA and has many examples. It helps readers understand VBA through examples and is one of the most comprehensive that way.
This is a good starting book for anyone who wants to learn VBA but I feel it lacks coverage. Many times, for fairly simple programs, I had to google information on how to code becasue the information was not in the book.
I am a self-taught VBA user who has had no classes, training, or mentoring on this particular language. Before this book, I knew enough to simplify some tasks and draw "ooo"s and "aahh"s from peers. I am now progressing in my career, and VBA is an essential skill for the positions in my interest. So, I decided to try to solidify my understanding of the language and its capabilities.This book was the perfect choice. After just a couple hours of reading, skimming, and analyzing the examples given, I have made major improvements to several programs I had played around with in the past. I am much more confident in my ability, and I have only scratched the surface of this text. If you already have programming experience, most of the first 12 or so chapters can be skimmed, and you should find the multiple example programs extremely helpful with minimal time and effort. If you are new to programming, these beginning chapters will get you started. The examples are practical and interesting. If you need to learn VBA for Excel, this is the way to go.

If you buy this book, you must also buy the CD as well.You have to practice it in order to under the VBA function.It is not an easy concept. For example, you write a simple program and one missingdot will not be able to debug.This book has good information.Remember purchase the CD to make it worth.
